Orthopaedic Services

The Orthopaedic Hospital at Parham Doctors' Hospital

Whether you come to us because of an accident, a work-related injury, or because a diseased joint needs to be replaced, we provide the expert care you need to get better. At Parham Doctors' Hospital, you'll find experienced orthopaedic physicians who perform even the most complex procedures: joint replacements, hand surgeries, and others. We’re the first hospital in the nation to perform the sigmoid notch implant for the wrist, a breakthrough procedure that helps patients with arthritic problems in the wrist. Our nationally recognized orthopaedics program also achieved Five-Star Ratings for Hip Replacements by HealthGrades in 2007, 2008 and 2009.

Cutting-Edge Amenities at the Orthopaedic Hospital
In 2007, we welcomed the addition of our state-of-the-art Orthopaedic Hospital, located within the Parham Doctors' Hospital at 7700 E. Parham Road. The Orthopaedic Hospital includes a Joint and Spine Center featuring hotel-like suites, décor and amenities, as well as the latest technology to provide the best care to patients. Highlights also include a dedicated elective orthopaedics surgical unit, 20 private rooms, an on-floor dining facility, concierge services, integrated rehabilitation and group therapy, a consistent pain management program, a coach program (parent or friend), and available transportation.

In addition to top-flight diagnostic and medical/surgical capabilities, our rehabilitation services complete the picture; the final steps for helping you resume an active lifestyle.

Accurate, Timely Diagnoses
Your treatment can be only as good as the diagnosis. Because we have invested in the latest in imaging capabilities, you'll be diagnosed more quickly and accurately than was possible before. That's important, especially when you're in pain or can't get around as well as you used to.

In addition to some of the area's most advanced digital radiographic capabilities, our orthopaedic staff has replaced the invasive arthrogram with MRI, a non-surgical tool that identifies tears and defects in joint spaces.

Less Pain & Faster Recovery
We take care of patients following surgery for sports injuries, work-related accidents, hand surgeries, joint replacement and back surgeries, such as spinal fusions and laminectomies. We focus on the entire process following surgery, starting with pain management then moving to physical therapy so patients are up and about as soon as possible.

Fewer patient grimaces mean our approach to pain management is working.

Following your surgery, and beginning in the Recovery Room, our staff is focused on relieving your discomfort from surgery. The primary method of Pain Management in the first hours following surgery is the Patient-Controlled Analgesia, or PCA. This is a method of delivering pain medication through an IV line so you don’t have to get those “shots” we all dread. Per a physician’s order, this method allows for a continuous infusion to keep your pain controlled and offers patients the freedom of pain relief at the push of a button.

You’re assigned to your own Physical Therapist once you are admitted to our floor.

This is just part of how we treat you like a member of the royal family, because we want to avoid setbacks and delays and get you back to your real life again. And should you need additional rehabilitation therapy, we have an Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit, which is conveniently located in the same building.

It's All About Getting Back On Your Feet
At The Orthopaedic Hospital at Parham Doctors' Hospital, we offer pre- and post-op rehabilitation services. Or you might need us for physical therapy as a non-surgical treatment. Whatever your reason, you have one thing in common with everyone who comes here: you need a place to get better.

No one offers more rehabilitation services and programs than we do. Our team of rehabilitation experts provides accomplished, compassionate care. We offer inpatient therapy, long-term and skilled nursing care, subacute care, outpatient programs and therapy, cardiac rehab, and many other services.

And with several locations around Richmond, we're easy to get to.

Some of our staff has been with us for over 30 years.

Experience, expertise, team players. That comes in handy after any orthopedic surgery, and our patients and admitting physicians appreciate a staff that knows their specialty and knows the routine inside and out. For more information about us, call 804-967-5385.
